Ubaid Abbas a 19-year-old youth leader and changemaker from Jammu & Kashmir is leading a powerful, youth-driven movement that’squietly transforming the narrative of the region. As the founder of two pioneering initiatives KSMUN Kashmir Sky Model United Nations and FunteFankar he is channeling the vibrant energy vision and resilience of Gen Z from Kashmir into platforms that inspire dialogue creativity and leadership
In a region often overshadowed by conflict and political discourse stories of youth empowerment rarely reach the spotlight Determined to shift this narrative Ubaid has spent the last two years creating safe spaces for young people to dream bigger, express themselves freely and engage in global conversations. KSMUN was born from the vision of representing Kashmiri youth on international platforms such as the United Nations. It operates as a model diplomacy and mentorship program, organizing debates, MUN simulations, and awareness events that encourage students to become articulate speakers critical thinkers, and informed citizens. These sessions go beyond formal rhetoric they nurture empathetic policyaware leaders of tomorrow
Complementing this intellectual initiative is FunteFankar, a vibrant platform that celebrates creativity humor and cultural expression. Recognizing the emotional and artistic needs of Kashmiri youth, Ubaid launched FunteFankar as a space for young creators to showcase their talents be it through poetry, digital art, street performances or storytelling The name itself is a playful fusion of fun and artistry, and the platform has quickly evolved into a sanctuary for local talent and a celebration of identity, resilience, and originality
Together KSMUN and FunteFankar reflect two sides of youth empowerment one focused on diplomacy and dialogue, the other on creativity and cultural pride. These grassroots initiatives, born from Ubaid’s deep commitment to his community, are redefining the capabilities of young people in Kashmir. His mission is not just about individual success, but about breaking stereotypes amplifying unheard voices and proving that Kashmiri youth are not just surviving they are thriving, evolving and leading with purpose
