Raashid Gulzar Khan Uplifting Tribal Youth Through Martial Arts Excellence

From the quiet village of Sonerwani in North Kashmir, Raashid Gulzar Khan has carved a powerful legacy not just as a martial arts champion, but as a mentor shaping young lives through discipline and purpose. A seasoned coach and the founder of Star Sports Academy, Raashid today stands as a symbol of hope for Kashmir’s emerging athletes.

With eight national gold medals across disciplines such as kickboxing, jujitsu, silambam, ball badminton, and wushu, his personal achievements speak of dedication and excellence. Yet, for Raashid, medals were never the final goal. His true pride lies in empowering children from Kashmir’s tribal belt many of whom had talent but little access or direction.

Under his guidance, Star Sports Academy has produced several state- and national-level medalists. A defining moment came recently when his trainee Zeeshan Tahir earned selection for an international martial arts event in Sri Lanka an achievement that highlighted what focused mentorship can unlock.

Raashid remains deeply connected to the tribal villages of Bandipora, where he continues to train and mentor children. “There is immense talent in tribal areas,” he says.“They only need the right guidance.” Many of his students from these backgrounds have gone on to win national gold medals an accomplishment he calls his greatest victory.

Beyond competitive sports, Raashid is also contributing to social change. As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, he organises cricket, football, kickboxing, and martial arts events to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among youth.

Through sport, discipline, and belief, Raashid Gulzar Khan is not only building champions but nurturing confident, responsible individuals who represent a brighter future for Kashmir’s remote regions.
