Kashmir-based plasma diagnostics startup takes the top honor in India's National DeepTech Innovation Challenge, run by the Department of Atomic Energy Incubator Alliance, beating out finalist teams from across the country at the RRCAT Indore immersion program.
SRINAGAR, JAMMU & KASHMIR
In a valley better known for saffron fields and shikaras than semiconductor fabs, a small team of engineers building instruments meant to see inside the heart of a plasma reactor has just claimed one of India's most competitive deep-tech honors.
Stellar Dynamics, founded by Murtaza Khan, Numaan Bashir and Muneeb Wafaie, the Srinagar-headquartered plasma diagnostics company incorporated as Project Vision Cosmos Pvt. Ltd., has won first prize at DIA TECHATHON 2.0, the National-Level DeepTech Innovation Challenge run under the aegis of the Department of Atomic Energy Incubator Alliance (DIA). The win came at the conclusion of Round III a two-day offline immersion program at the RRCAT Convention Center, home of the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology in Indore where Stellar Dynamics stood out among a national field of twelve finalist teams.
The challenge is jointly convened by four of India's most elite deep-tech incubation centers: AIC π-Hub at RRCAT Indore(the nodal AIC for the competition), AIC ANUSHAKTI at BARC Mumbai, the Plasmatech Innovation Foundation at IPR Ahmedabad, and AIC FAST at IGCAR Kalpakkam all operating under the Department of Atomic Energy, with backing from the Atal Innovation Mission and NITI Aayog. Taking first place means Stellar Dynamics' technology was judged the strongest in the country by a panel of scientists, academicians, and industry experts spanning India's nuclear and advanced-technology research establishment.
For a company built far from India's traditional startup corridors, the win is a clear, independent signal that its technology competes and leads on merit alone.
A Diagnostics Platform Built for the Deep-Tech Frontier
Stellar Dynamics' flagship program, the PR-26 Mainframe DAQ, is a full-stack plasma diagnostics platform designed to unify a broad suite of measurement and sensing capabilities into a single, coherent instrumentation stack an ambitious engineering undertaking backed by an actively growing technology ecosystem and a patent application already filed for its core approach.
It is precisely this kind of hard-hardware, physics-first engineering that DIA TECHATHON was built to find. The competition's eight technology tracks span advanced manufacturing, biophotonics, advanced materials, power electronics, clean energy, and plasma technologies the exact frontier where Stellar Dynamics has spent years building.
The company is already no stranger to the DAE ecosystem, having built deep ties across the country's network of deep-tech incubators, including a home base at NewGEN IEDC, University of Kashmir relationships that have helped the company steadily build out its developing technology ecosystem.
Why This Matters for Investors Deep-tech hardware is hard to evaluate from the outside the diligence bar is technical, slow, and unforgiving. That is exactly why a first-place finish from a body like the DAE Incubator Alliance carries weight disproportionate to a typical hackathon trophy. Winning DIA TECHATHON 2.0 means Stellar Dynamics' technology has been vetted and ranked first by the scientific and industrial community that sits closest to India's atomic energy, fusion, and advanced materials programs: the same community that will eventually be a customer, partner, or regulator for the company's diagnostics platform.
For a company pursuing a platform strategy plasma diagnostics today, with a roadmap toward neutron sources, ion beam, and e-beam product lines that kind of validation is a credibility signal that money alone cannot buy.
“Winning DIA TECHATHON 2.0 against the strongest deep-tech teams in the country tells us something we already believed: that world-class deep-tech does not need to come from a metro tech hub. We built this company in Srinagar, on the conviction that the instruments the world's fusion and semiconductor labs need can be engineered anywhere there is enough obsession with the physics. This is proof of that at national scale.”

What Comes Next
The win at RRCAT Indore puts Stellar Dynamics in direct contact with DAE scientists, industry mentors, and the broader innovation and investment ecosystem the Alliance has built around the challenge a rare, concentrated window of access for a startup still early in its funding journey.
